The game started with a touch of dropsy by the Eagles as it took them 15 minutes to complete a full set but they still managed to score 3 try’s in that time. The 1st after 5 minutes by Adam Atkinson, who played in an unaccustomed role in loose forward, but fit into the position as if he had played there all season. The Eagles then fell behind for the only time in the game to a very well worked try, scored by Tiger’s number 6 with the kick also added. The Eagles then burst into life with a try straight from the kick off by Rob Reid, making his impressive debut after his transfer, which put the Eagles in front and that’s where they stayed as only3 minutes later a well worked try the full length of the field saw Alex Glover score in the corner and 2 minutes later he scored his 2nd in exactly the same spot, with both kicks missed due to the high winds. A further try by Josh Taylor in the opposite corner brought the score to 22 – 6 at half time.

This game was a bit of a disappointment regards the score as it did not justify the effort the team put in. It took Pumas 11 minutes before the registered their first score to make it 6 – 0. The Eagles were pressing well when on 25 minutes we were camped on the Pumas line and looking likely to score, when hard working prop Craig Allen received a serious injury to his knee, which meant we were down to one prop as all our replacements were all backs.
From the resulting injury it disrupted us as we had to play aback into the pack. From the resulting scrum on the Pumas 15 yard line Peterlee then went the full length of the field to score and make it 12- 0.
Straight from the kick off Peterlee began to build pressure on the Eagles line which eventually cracked right on half time to make the half time score Eagles 0 Peterlee 18.
The second half started with Peterlee yet again building good pressure and it only took them 2 minutes to register their fourth try. Straight from this try Eagles received another blow as they lost their half back, Joe Atkinson with a groin injury. This meant that the Eagles had lost two key players in two key positions. Three minutes later we then received what was the killer blow as we lost probably our best forward Ewan Hunter to a bad neck injury. This injury signalled the end for the Eagles as no matter how hard the team worked Peterlee was just too strong. The home team then ran in a further 5 tries to make the score look very lop sided and did not reflect the closeness of the game until injuries finally finished us off. Having said that this was probably our best defensive performance against the Pumas for a long time and no doubt when we play them again, so long as we keep a clean bill of health, it could be a lot different.
Final score Eagles 0 Peterlee 44

WALLSEND EAGLES V HARTLEPOOL (FRIENDLY)
This game was a great chance for the recent new signings to get a run out and also put some players in different positions but the game itself was not a easy as we first thought as Hartlepool, although very naïve were very enthusiastic, and had some very good players, who I am sure will improve the more games they play.

Eagles returned to their league fixtures, and what a day to play rugby. 26 degrees at kick off time.
The ref decided it was better to play 4 quarters instead of the usual 2 halves to allow plenty of water breaks.

On Saturday 24th April Wallsend Eagles played Peterlee Pumas in the North East u15's League. It was inevitable on such a fine day that both teams had to acclimatise to the heat; which saw a water break called half way through the first half.
